FAQ's about the Basic Pistol Course

Q.

I've been around firearms all my life.  Why should I take a Basic Pistol course?

A.

A NRA Basic Pistol course is where most people begin in order to continue on to the Personal Protection courses.  In addition, the Basic Pistol course can give you insight into the fundamentals of shooting that you may not have gotten from other sources of firearms training.

Q.

How old do you have to be to take the Basic Pistol course?

A.

The NRA does not have a specific age requirement for the Basic Pistol course, however, each student must be able to perform the exercises involved in the class safely and properly.  A parent or guardian must be present for any instruction of a minor.

Q.

Do I need to bring my own firearms or ammunition?

A.

No.  We are happy to provide any firearms and ammunition needed for this class.  If you'd prefer to use your own .22LR caliber firearm, we will provide .22LR caliber ammunition.  If you prefer to use a different caliber firearm, you will be responsible for providing your own ammunition.  There is no discount for using your own firearm or ammunition in this course.  Personal firearms will be subject to inspection by one of our instructors prior to it's use in the class.

Q.

What are the class times?

A.

This class runs from 8am until around 6pm.  We will break about once every hour and for about an hour for lunch.
