Missouri Concealed Carry course FAQ's

FAQ's about Armed Missouri, Inc.

Q.

Is there a prerequisite for taking this class?

A.

No.  Missouri law clearly identifies this class as a basic firearms training course.  Many of our students have never held a gun before and we pride ourselves on our ability to quickly bring them up to speed and get them shooting accurately enough to pass this course.

Q.

Do I need to bring a firearm?

A.

We will provide all firearms necessary for this class.  If you have one you'd like to use, you may bring it and once we verify it's safe to operate, you may use it.  We do not allow the use of rimfire handguns during the qualification portion of this class.

Q.

Do I need to bring ammunition?

A.

The cost of ammunition is included in the fee we charge for this class, so there is no need to bring your own.  If you'd like to bring your own, we will credit you the cost of ammunition.

Q.

What are the class times?

A.

This class will run from 8am until about 6pm.  Class times are approximate, however, and class may run longer depending on the size of the class and the ability of the students.  We will break about once every hour and for about an hour for lunch.

Q.

Will this course teach advanced personal protection shooting skills and tactics?

A.

No, the Missouri Concealed Carry Course is a basic course that covers basic handgun safety, operation, marksmanship, care, cleaning, and storage of handguns, as well as Missouri laws as they relate to the use of physical force, deadly force, and concealed weapons, in addition to touching on some basic concepts of defensive shooting and tactics.  The course is designed to comply with Missouri laws that govern the required course curriculum, and there simply isn't enough time in a one-day class to cover the requirements of these laws, as well as provide advanced tactical training.  Courses offered from other places that claim to provide compliant training as well as advanced tactical training all in a one day course are likely shortchanging the students in one area or the other; a potentially detrimental proposition.  We recommend that all Missouri Concealed Carry Course students also participate in the more advanced training we offer in the CCW Level 2 - Basic Defensive Handgun, NRA Personal Protection In the Home, and NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home courses to further their pistolcraft skills.

Q.

What does "legally compliant" mean?

A.

Our concealed carry course is based on the criteria in chapter 571.111 RSMo.  We based our class on this criteria not only to meet the requirements but also to guarantee our class is acceptable to each county we are on file with.  This course is designed for beginners and experienced shooters alike and all students are encouraged to attend more advanced classes to further their skills.

Q.

What makes your CCW class better than other instructors?

A.

Due to its low cost, most instructors who provide firearms and ammunition only provide .22LR caliber handguns for their students.  While this is not illegal, we believe that in order to provide the best training possible, our students should qualify only with a firearm and caliber that is suitable for concealed carry and personal protection.  Small calibers, such as the .22LR, are too small and underpowered to provide adequate stopping power for personal defense use, and therefore, should only be used as a last resort.  Each student in our course will shoot at a preliminary target using a .22LR caliber handgun, however a .380ACP caliber handgun or larger will be used during qualification in order for us to evaluate how the student will perform with a gun of adequate, personal protection size.  In other words, even though our classes are about the same price or less than those of other instructors, we spend more money on ammunition and firearms for our classes to provide our students with a more lifelike and superior training experience. We are confident that our Missouri concealed carry course is among the best in the state, and we invite you to be our guest for a day and find out for yourself.
