According to a national study conducted in 2004 by the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, a violent crime is committed every 23.1 seconds.  That's nearly 1.4 million violent crimes each year.  The Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology estimates firearms are used every 13 seconds to prevent crime.  That's an additional 2.5 million crimes each year that are prevented by law-abiding gun owners who refuse to be victimized by criminals.  Being armed, not only with a weapon, but with the necessary training, knowledge, and skills can mean the difference between victim and victor.
